- Prepare documentation and labels for all products in accordance with C-CARE standard operating procedures.
- Receive and evaluate prescriptions/orders from patients or hospital staff, ensuring compliance with departmental protocols.
- Verify that prescription details meet legal requirements and liaise with medical/nursing staff as needed.
- Check dispensed medicines against prescriptions and consult prescribing doctors for any doubts about appropriateness, dosage, or labeling.
- Communicate treatment information to patients and relay relevant details to team members.
- Monitor drug expiry dates to ensure timely rotation and use before expiration.
- Conduct regular stock checks and stock takes to ensure adequate medical supplies (drugs, sundries, fluids, etc.) and remove expired items. Stock checks may include:
- Theatre & Sterilization
- Pharmacy cages and dispensary
- Stock cupboards
- Wards (OPD, IPDs)
- Ensure refrigerated items are stored at appropriate temperatures and regularly monitor/record fridge temperatures.
- Maintain accurate data entries and documentation for prescriptions/supplies, including stock cards and Navision, to ensure accountability.
- Be accountable for drug usage in the pharmacy and report any abuse of medical resources.
- Answer phone calls per C-CARE etiquette, assess queries, respond, or refer to appropriate staff.
- Attend meetings and training sessions as requested and stay updated via inter/intranet and noticeboards.
- Check for contraindications or harmful drug interactions (e.g., in pregnancy) to ensure patient safety.
- Dispose of used/unwanted materials (e.g., expired drugs) per C-CARE SOPs.
- Participate in unit assessments and internal audits to ensure service quality.
- Ensure safe and appropriate storage of materials/equipment and maintain adequate stock records.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Pharmacist or Pharmacy team leader.
Person Specifications: Qualifications: - Diploma in Pharmacy Technology.
- Registration with the Uganda Allied Health Professionals Council.
Years of Experience: - At least 1 year of dispensing experience.
Skills Required: - Knowledge of key pharmacology terms and standards.
- Dispensing experience is an added advantage.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Excellent customer care and communication skills.
- Knowledge of key drug indications, regimens, and interactions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- Strong organizational skills with multitasking ability.
- Entrepreneurial mindset.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in dispensing medications.
