The focus is on the physical, non-IT systems that support the technology within the data center, ensuring the building and its critical systems never fail. Key Results Areas / Accountabilities. - Power Management and Resilience
- Continuously monitoring the status, performance, and fuel levels of the Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and backup generators to guarantee immediate failover capability during utility outages.
- Performing routine inspections of electrical switchgear, distribution panels, and power circuits.
- Conducting regular tests and inspections of battery strings within the UPS systems to ensure optimal charge and reliability.
- Cooling and Environmental Control
- Monitoring and adjusting the data hall environment to ensure temperature and humidity levels remain within strict, manufacturer-specified tolerances to prevent equipment damage
- Monitoring proper airflow and containment strategies (like hot/cold aisle separation) are maintained to maximize cooling efficiency.
- Physical Security and Safety
- Managing and monitoring the physical access control systems, issuing and revoking access credentials, and ensuring only authorized personnel are in the facility.
- Monitoring closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems for any unauthorized activity or security breaches.
- Inspecting and participating in scheduled tests on fire detection and suppression systems
- Conducting regular facility walk-throughs to identify and report any physical risks, leaks, or maintenance issues.
- Remote Hands and Basic Physical Support
- Performing simple physical operations like power cycling (rebooting) servers or network gear upon request from remote IT operations teams.
- Checking the status of indicator lights on hardware and reporting findings (e.g., checking for solid vs. flashing lights to report device status).
- Supervising and escorting external maintenance vendors who are servicing critical infrastructure (e.g., generator refueling, UPS maintenance).
Qualifications. - Diploma in IT, Electrical engineering, Computer Science or related area.
Skills / Competencies. A. Technical Skills. - Strong knowledge of facilities management, especially with power, generators and electric distribution in IT or similar environments
- Expertise in physical security systems and fire detection/ suppression protocols
- Understanding of safety compliance and standards related to electrical work
B. Behavioral Competencies. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, hybrid environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork.
- High level of integrity, with strong attention to detail.
- Proactive, innovative mindset with willingness to learn new technologies.
Experience. - At least two yearsâ hands-on experience in a related area.
