Kamwenge Maranatha (Maranatha Health) currently implementing community health advisory projects in the district of Kabarole and Fort Portal, is seeking for qualified candidates to fill the position of Community Healthy Development Officer. JOB SUMMARY A Community Health Development Officer at MHU is a healthcare and social development professional responsible for promoting health, wellness, and disease prevention in community settings. They work with individuals, families, and communities to identify health needs, develop strategies for improvement, and provide support and resources to achieve health goals. With support of the Community Programs Manager, the Community Health Development Officer fosters the growth of Community projects and services while remaining committed to raising health outcomes, empowering the poor and making positive, lasting change in MHU communities. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: a) Program Development and Planning: - Develops and implements Community Health Advisor program strategies, plans, and budgets to achieve program objectives
b) Program Implementation and Management - Manages the implementation of the AB program, ensuring that program activities are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
c) Community Mobilization - Community Engagement: Engages with community members, leaders, and organizations to raise awareness about health issues and promote the project.
- Building Partnerships: Develops partnerships with community-based organizations, healthcare providers, and local government agencies to leverage resources and support.
- Supporting the MH clinic staff in outreach activities and patient follow up when needed.
d) Selection and Formation of Community Health Advisors - Recruitment: Recruits and selects community members to serve as Community Health Advisors (CHAs).
- Training and Support: Provides training, support, and guidance to CHAs to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.
e) Training and Mentoring of Community Health Advisors - Training Sessions: Develops and implements training sessions for CHAs on health topics, communication skills, and community outreach.
- Mentoring and Coaching: Provides ongoing mentoring and coaching to CHAs to ensure they are confident and competent in their roles.
f) Home Visits and Health promotions - Home Visits: Conducts home visits with CHAs to provide health education, support, and resources to individuals and families.
- Health Promotions: Develops and implements health promotion strategies to encourage healthy behaviors and disease prevention.
- Creativity and Innovation: Continues to develop new health innovations and practices to increase community and household participation in disease prevention and control.
g) Monitoring and Evaluating the Project - Data Collection: Collects data on project activities, outcomes, and impact.
- Evaluation and Reporting: Evaluates project effectiveness and report findings to stakeholders, including community leaders, healthcare providers, management and funders.
f) Community Stakeholder Engagement - Community Meetings: Attends community meetings and events to engage with stakeholders, promote the project, and gather feedback.
- Building strong partnerships of trust with other health centers, local governments, NGOs and key stake holders.
g) Engaging with Community Leaders - Building Relationships: Develops relationships with community leaders to promote the project, gather feedback, and leverage support.
- Leadership Development: Provides training and support to community leaders to enhance their skills and knowledge in health promotion and disease prevention.
h) Engaging Community Local Institutions - Develops partnerships with schools, churches and CBOs to promote health education and support healthy behaviors among them.
i) Reporting and Communication - Regular Reporting: Submits regular reports to supervisors, and other stakeholders on project activities, outcomes, and impact.
- Communication with CHAs: Maintains regular communication with CHAs to provide guidance, support, and feedback.
- Providing accountability for financial and other resources advanced to you
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE a) Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Public Health or a related field from a recognized institution. b) Relevant experience in community health, health education, or a related field. c) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including proficiency in local languages such as Lhukonzo, Rutooro, Runyankole and Rukiga, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders. d) Demonstrated cultural competence and ability to work with diverse communities. e) Ability to ride, with a valid riding permit, essential for effective community outreach and f ieldwork in remote areas. f) Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of integrity and professionalism. - Develops and implements Community Health Advisor program strategies, plans, and budgets to achieve program objectives
