SETTING AND REPORTING: The Department of Operational Support (DOS) was established to provide end-to-end operational support, advisory services and other solutions to operating entities across the Secretariat, including departments, offices away from headquarters, peace operations, and regional commissions. The Regional Service Centre in Entebbe, Uganda (RSCE), was established in July 2010, following the adoption of General Assembly resolution 64/269. The Centre provides efficient, client-oriented and scalable services to its client entities. This includes transactional elements of human resources, finance, multimodal movement and control, personnel and cargo transport and information and communications technology (ICT) support. In addition to these services, the Office of the Director RSCE and support offices through the Deputy Director RSCE provides overall guidance on the operations of the RSCE including strategic planning, communication, budgeting, human resources management, property management, quality assurance and business intelligence, conference services, record keeping and archive management, and audit response and risk management. For more information, please visit https://rsce.unmissions.org. This internship position is in the Communications Unit, Office of the Director at the Regional Service Centre Entebbe (RSCE). The intern will report to the Chief of Communications. The purpose of this internship is to support the RSCE Communications Unit in developing and implementing high-quality public information, multimedia products, strategic communication, and outreach initiatives that enhance the Centreâs visibility, stakeholder engagement, and delivery of public information. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Communications, the Intern will undertake the following tasks: - Provide support in the development of a communication strategies for the Programmes and Initiatives of the Centre and identify requirements for implementation.
- Support Chief, Communications on the design and creation of multimedia products (e.g. videos, motion graphics, animations, photography, and infographics), for effective storytelling across the Centre digital platforms, undertaking research and determining appropriate medium and target audience
- Leverages technology and social media networks, and makes informed use of user analytics to expand the reach and availability of information about the Regional Service Centre
- Prepare press releases, media briefs, reports, talking points, newsletters, brochures, and RSCE visibility materials and organize advocacy and communication campaigns.
- Identify key contacts/constituencies and opportunities for strategic partnerships to foster communication with RSCE stakeholders
- Support communication unit in conceiving and implementing marketing strategy for the Centre
- Prepare production plans, write drafts, obtain clearances, finalize texts, edit and coordinate design approval, printing procedures and distribution.
- Organize clearances, production and distribution of information material; conducts photo and graphic research
- Assure alignment of digital products and campaigns to the RSCEâs strategic communication and pubic information objectives
- Assist in the development of annual work plans for monitoring progress activities and achievements and regularly update the same.
- Provide expertise and technical advice on information tools and communication strategies
- Communicate with clients, designers and planners to produce a design a quality concept
- Create a weekly schedule template

- Develop specific types (e.g. videos, graphic designs, print, broadcast, etc.) of information communications products (including articles encompassed with high quality photographs)
- Efficient and effective communication with clients, service line managers and other stakeholders and planners
- Customer-oriented service to all the Stakeholders of the Centre.
- Effective reach-out to key contacts/constituencies and opportunities for strategic partnerships to foster communication with RSCE stakeholders
- Adequate use of internal communication tools throughout the office
- A final statement of achievements during the internship such as reporting on the number of communication materials produced, activities participated in and capacities developed)
- The development of capacity through coaching, mentoring and formal on-the-job training, when working with RSCE staff or (non-) governmental counterparts, including Implementing Partners (IPs);
- Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment
