JOB DETAILS: MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB Identify, assess and report on operational risks KEY RESULT AREAS AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Participate in the preparation of plans and strategies for the effective assessment and management of risks • Participate in developing appropriate tools for monitoring operational risk exposures • Review and assess inherent risks within new processes and systems and make relevant recommendations to the Manager • Review existing processes and system to identify risk exposures and recommend appropriate mitigation measures • Provide technical support to the underwriting and claims and reinsurance departments in the assessment and management of risks associated with the services they render • Undertake sensitization/training of staff on operational risk control • Record in a database, all incidents of risk reported from operational areas and prepare periodic and ad hoc incident reports; analyzing the causes and recommending appropriate control measures • Prepare periodic and ad hoc operational risk reports as advised by the Manager • Monitor developments in the environment and identify potential risk exposures. PERSON SPECIFICATION: Minimum Academic and/or Professional Qualifications Necessary • Minimum of a University Degree in Actuarial Science, Business Administration, Commerce Additional Training/Qualifications/Certification Necessary • Possession of relevant professional qualifications such as Certified Risk Management Professional; or a professional qualification in insurance at the level of Diploma CII or its equivalent Minimum Experience and Exposure Necessary • 5 years of progressive work experience in risk management, audit or underwriting, with 2 of the years at a supervisor level, in reputable organizations Key Knowledge Required • Principles of risk management • Good knowledge of the insurance industry • Principles, theory and practice of insurance • Knowledge of management information systems Key Skills Necessary • Hands-on skills in risk assessment and management • Computer skills • Good communication and listening skills • Report writing skills • Analytical and problem solving skills • Interpersonal/people skills Other Qualities/Attributes • Teamwork • Time management • Innovation/creativity • Ability to work under minimum supervision and for long hours • High level of integrity and professionalism • Result-oriented, with commitment to quality and thoroughness • Confidentiality • Accuracy and attention to detail Work Hours: 8
