Job Title:  Chief Operating Officer (COO) Organisation: Kijani Forestry Duty Station: Gulu, Uganda About Organisation: Kijani Forestry envisions planting trees that are indigenous, fast-growing, and could be coppiced to replace old growth forest from being cut down was well received. We were utilizing various, proven techniques and technologies to design a new business model – sustainable charcoal grown in an agroforestry ecosystem. Job Summary:  The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will manage and handle the daily business operations of the company, working closely with department heads and supervisors to support the day-to-day activity of employees Key Duties and Responsibilities: - Designing, refining, and implementing business operations
- Establishing policies that promote company culture and vision
- Overseeing operations of the company and the work of executives
- Analyze internal operations and identify areas for process enhancement
- Implement business strategies and plans that align with the short- and long-term objectives developed in tandem with the CEO.
- Oversee operations, HR, and Finance, MEL and partner with CEO in management so that sufficient investment capital can be budgeted for near-term growth targets
- Manage capital investments and expenses aggressively to ensure that the company achieves investor targets for growth and profitability
- Build and maintain trusting relationships with key customers, clients, partners, and stakeholders.
- Evaluating company performance and recommend strategies to improve results
- Coach and develop the team to ensure they are delivering against key business metrics.
- Motivating and leading a high-performance management team.
- Attract, recruit, and retain required members of the executive team not currently in place
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: - Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related field required
- A Master’s Degree or MBA strongly preferred
- Professional certifications, such as Project Management Professional (PMP) or Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 10 years of executive experience
- In-depth understanding of the industry including risk management and compliance.
- In-depth understanding of accounting principles including budgeting, balance sheets, income statements, cash flow, and capital planning management
- Demonstrated strategic leadership ability
Skills - High level thinking and problem-solving ability
- Excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity
- Understanding of advanced business planning and regulatory issues
- Solid grasp of data analysis and performance metrics
- Ability to diagnose problems quickly and foresee potential issues
- Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills
