KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Overall in charge of all technical matters on board.
- Responsible for safe and efficient operations of all the machineries, hull, engine room staff and all prime movers/equipment.
- To appraise and evaluate engine room staff performance
- Carry out the companyâs planned maintenance, additional and alterations of the
- systems up to date and on record.
- Maintain sufficient bunkers, stores (spares) that are essential to the running of the ship.
- Personally supervising the safe and efficient transfer of bunkers for the purpose of
- preventing marine environmental pollution.
- Prepare and report to the company the repairs and dry docking schedules as required by the ship maintenance schedule.
- Control all the engine room operations and report by keeping all the records.
- Inspection of the daily works of the ships machineries and hull by checking and signing of the log book daily.
- Keep records of all oil movement and are filled in the oil record book.
- Ensuring that all the emergency equipment is tested as per the recommendations of SOLAS.
- Ensuring all the statutory certificate and survey reports are kept up to date.
- Arrange for Engine room watch keeping.
- Advise on Training and evaluation of the ships engine room staff and the workshop staff as per the requirements of the Standard and Certification of Watch keeping to the requirements of (STCWâ 95).
- Safe custody of all the ships (Engine room) publications.
- Planning of manpower, job delegation.
- Supervise engine room personnel and give advice as required
- Daily job planning with 1st engineer and daily routine inspection
- Ensure proper operation of safety equipment and its certificate validity
- Inventory management and requisition
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS - Minimum of a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Minimum âAâ Level with passes in Mathematics and Physics or its equivalence from recognized institution
- Knowledge in computer applications.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS - Class II Chief Engineerâs Certificate of Competency and endorsement for a ship with propulsion machinery of 750 KW to 3000 KW Certificate in Advanced Fire Fighting
- Ship Security Officer
- Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat Personal Survival Techniques
- Basic Fire Fighting Elementary First Aid
- Personal Safety and Social Responsibility Rating Forming Part of Engineering Watch Ship Security Officer Course
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS - At least 6 yearsâ experience as Maintenance Engineer (Chief engineer or 2nd Engineer) Knowledge and understanding of marine diesel engines and propulsion systems.
- Understanding of maintenance, planning and execution of repairs at managerial level Basic knowledge and interpretation of naval drawings.
- Good communication and time management. Ability to carry out risk assessment and ensure safety.
- Collaborative teamwork skills and cross-cultural competency
