This position reports to Business Health, Safety And Environment Your role and responsibilities In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to improving Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) performance in your assigned area of responsibility to cultivate a high-performance culture with a strong focus on HSE. Each day, you will support the business by applying in-depth HSE knowledge and offering solutions and advice. You will also showcase your expertise by ensuring effective risk management through HSE excellence along the ABB value chain. The work model for the role is: Office based This role is contributing to the Process Automation in Kampala. You will be mainly accountable for: • Contribute to improving Health, Safety, Environmental and Sustainability Affairs (HSE/SA) performance in the respective organization to ensure an exemplary health and safety culture as well as a strong focus on the environment. Roles, in accordance to local HSE legislative requirements and ABB group policy, instructions and standards. • Facilitates HSE risks assessment by line management involving shop floor employees, i.e. those directly concerned by the hazards, and ensures all processes are implemented. • Drives behavioral change through implementing Group-wide performance improvement programs and practices locally to ensure an exemplary health and safety culture as well as a strong focus on environment throughout the respective organization. • Engages external (e.g. customers, suppliers and other stakeholders) and internal stakeholders in order to report on, raise awareness and gain commitment on ABB's HSE efforts and performance and obtain objective feedback. Cooperates with other functions, the CoE and business partners to drive HSE performance. • Ensures appropriate safety equipment and tools are available and used. Identifies, plans and initiates training need, e.g. for employees, site managers, and agree with, and ensures delivery of training from the CoE. Drives and ensures compliance with Group management systems (e.g. ISO 45001and ISO 9001). • Contributes to and/or plans and executes HSE, Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility (CR) related projects. Develops and reports on project objectives. Manages project resources such as manpower, financials and other relevant factors. • Reports HSE incidents. Feeds back on lessons learned and best practice from own unit and across ABB to management and employees. Reports progress on implementation of ABB Group Sustainability objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs) to ABB Group, as required c• National Diploma or BTech: Health and Safety • Management. • 4 + years’ experience in HSE management. • Qualification in ISO 45001 and ISO14001internal auditing. • Thorough specialist knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental management within a project environment setting. • Detailed knowledge of legal HSE framework, Including Legal compliance audit to ABB UG to ensure compliance with Uganda HSE law requirements. • Knowledge of The Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act – 2006 The Public Health Act - CAP 281 The Workers Compensation Act - CAP 225 The Employment Act – 2006 National Environment Act – 2019. • HSE management Information Systems. • First aid • Firefighting/Inspector. • Risk management training.
