Position Summary The Business Development Manager plays a critical strategic partnership role supporting Seedâs country teams and development leadership, with responsibility for independently managing key components of Seedâs pre-award business development portfolio. This role leads the identification, qualification, and pursuit of well-aligned institutional fundraising opportunities that advance Seedâs strategic plan, with a focus on technical partners including health-focused foundations, and bilateral and multilateral donors. The Business Development Manager brings strong professional expertise at the intersection of global public health and partnership development, with a working understanding of health systems strengthening and the global ecosystem of stakeholders engaged in this work. The role is responsible for translating organizational priorities into actionable business development plans, managing complex proposal processes, and building productive partnerships that drive revenue growth. This position reports to the Director of Development. Duties and Responsibilities Strategic Business Development and Partnerships - Independently develop and manage operational plans for Seedâs pre-award business development pipeline, aligned with organizational fundraising goals and country-level priorities;
- Monitor business forecasts and funding pipelines for bilateral and multilateral partners to identify priority opportunities for Seed to submit competitive bids;
- Develop and execute strategies for identifying and approaching well-aligned partnership prospects, including technical foundation partners, prime implementers, and institutional donors;
- Lead and participate in meetings with prospective partners, representing Seedâs strategy, impact, and partnership value proposition;
- Conduct due diligence on potential partners and funding opportunities, assessing strategic fit, financial viability, and operational requirements;
- Support and prepare for donor site visits to Seed country offices and partnerships, coordinating logistics and briefing materials;
Proposal Development and Execution - Lead or co-lead complex, deadline-driven proposal development processes, coordinating internal technical teams, country offices, and external partners;
- Support development of Seed concept notes and proposals, working with global and country teams to translate technical content into donor-aligned narratives, metrics, and budgets;
- Resolve tradeoffs and competing perspectives across stakeholders to ensure timely, high-quality submissions;
- Maintain and manage proposal timelines, calendars, and task tracking using Salesforce, Microsoft, and related systems
Knowledge Management and Systems - Stay abreast of global health funding trends and strategy shifts among key donors to inform Seedâs partnership strategy and development workplan;
- Support continuous improvement of Seedâs grants and business development systems in coordination with the Senior Director of Development and cross-functional teams;
- Serve as a reliable user and steward of Seedâs development tools and processes, ensuring accurate data capture, pipeline visibility, and recordkeeping;
Collaboration and Communication - Facilitate communication between Country teams, Development, Communications, and external partners, translating technical and strategic concepts for different audiences;
- Contribute to donor communications materials, including proposal narratives, partnership briefs, and external presentations;
- As needed, support grant reporting processes, including narrative development and coordination with Finance and Programs teams.
Qualifications - 6â8 years of experience in business development, partnerships, or institutional fundraising within an international nonprofit or global health organization;
- Demonstrated professional knowledge of global health systems, donor landscapes, and institutional funding mechanisms;
- Strong experience leading complex proposal development processes and managing cross-functional teams toward shared deadlines;
- Preferred experience working with or preparing bids for USAID, US CDC, FCDO, Global Fund, World Bank, or similar funders;
- Exceptional writing and communication skills, with the ability to synthesize technical material into compelling donor-facing content;
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and make informed decisions in ambiguous or time-constrained environments;
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including cross-cultural sensitivity and collaborative working style;
- Experience supervising or coaching staff or consultants, supporting their professional development;
- Proficiency in cloud-based productivity and CRM platforms (e.g., MS365, Salesforce, Teams).
