- Coordinating national programmes on social gerontology, geriatrics and community- based care systems for Older Persons;
- Building capacity of Local Governments, MDAs, Civil Society Organizations and other stakeholders involved in elderly programming;
- Advocating for the protection and promotion of the rights of Older Persons while strengthening mainstreaming of ageing concerns in sectoral and Local Government plans;
- Initiating, coordinating and monitoring the mainstreaming of Older Personsâ issues across MDAs and Local Governments;
- Providing technical support on affirmative action measures and social protection strategies aimed at improving the quality of life of Older Persons;
- Coordinating development and implementation of standards and models for home-based care, community support, residential care and palliative care services for Older Persons;
- Leading and coordinating research, documentation and dissemination of evidence-based models on ageing, gerontology and elderly care systems;
- Monitoring and evaluating implementation of Older Personsâ programmes in Local Governments and preparing technical performance reports;
- Strengthening coordination mechanisms with NGOs, FBOs, CBOs, Development Partners and the private sector to improve elderly welfare programming;
- Supporting resource mobilization initiatives to strengthen service delivery and sustainability of Older Persons;
- Managing staff performance, mentoring and professional development under the Division;
- Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications or requirements Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Honours Bachelorâs Degree in Social Gerontology; or Geriatrics; or Social Sciences; or Social Work and Social Administration; or Community Based Rehabilitation; or Planning and Social Development; or Development Studies; or Community Psychology; or Counselling and Guidance; or Sociology; or Adult and Community Education; or Law; or Human Rights plus a Masters Degree in Gerontology and Geriatrics; or Social Work; or Community Based Rehabilitation; or Social Protection; or Social Sector Planning and Management; or Counselling; or Clinical Psychology; or Project Planning and Management; or Development Studies from a recognized University/Institution. Experience needed Applicants should have a minimum of nine (9) years relevant working experience in social protection, elderly welfare, gerontology; or Community Development, three (3) of which should have been served as a Principal Officer in Government. - Providing technical leadership in formulating, reviewing and implementing policies, laws, guidelines and standards on social gerontology ageing and Older Persons;
- Coordinating national programmes on social gerontology, geriatrics and community- based care systems for Older Persons;
