On behalf of Our client in the manufacturing sector, we are looking for competent and experienced Accounts Officer to be based in Kampala. Reports To: Finance Manager Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda. Job Summary: The Accounts Officer shall support accurate financial recording, cost tracking for production processes, timely statutory compliance with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and other regulators, efficient management of payables/receivables, and reliable month-end reporting in a manufacturing environment. Main Duties and Responsibilities - Verify and process supplier invoices, purchase orders, goods received notes (GRN), and delivery notes for raw materials, packaging, spares, fuel, and services; perform three-way matching.
- Manage full accounts payable cycle: prepare weekly/monthly payment schedules, execute payments via EFT/RTGS, bank cheques or mobile money where applicable, and chase early settlement discounts.
- Handle accounts receivable: prepare and issue customer invoices (including VAT invoices), post receipts, issue statements of account, follow up overdue debts, and coordinate with sales team on collections.
- Perform daily/weekly bank reconciliations, cash book maintenance, and petty cash imprest management.
- Record inventory transactions (raw materials, work-in-progress, finished goods) in the accounting/ERP system; support monthly/quarterly physical stock counts and investigate variances.
- Assist in cost accounting: capture direct material, direct labour, and factory overhead costs; support monthly COGS calculation, production cost reports, and variance analysis (material, labour, overhead).
- Prepare and post journal entries for accruals, prepayments, depreciation of plant & machinery, and manufacturing-related adjustments.
- Maintain and update the fixed asset register; calculate and post monthly depreciation; track capital expenditures and disposals.
- Support month-end/year-end closing: prepare trial balance schedules, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting documents for external auditors.
- Prepare and file timely statutory returns including VAT (monthly), PAYE, NSSF, Local Service Tax (LST), and withholding tax deductions/remittances in line with URA deadlines.
- Assist in payroll processing verification (gross pay, PAYE, NSSF, LST deductions) and ensure statutory payments are remitted by due dates.
- Identify and flag financial discrepancies, cost overruns, or potential fraud/risks to the Finance Manager.
- Maintain proper filing (physical and digital) of all accounting documents, vouchers, invoices, and tax filings for audit readiness.
- Perform any other finance or accounts duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills - Bachelorâs degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- Professional qualification (e.g., CPA(U), ACCA, CPA(K), CIMA) or finalist level is an added advantage.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing, FMCG, or industrial environment.
- Practical experience with inventory costing, production accounting, and URA statutory compliance (VAT, PAYE, NSSF, LST, WHT) is essential.
- Hands-on knowledge of ERP Accounting Software preferably SAP is required.
- Knowledge of East African tax laws (withholding tax, import/export duties, excise) is a strong advantage.
- Knowledge of Accounting concepts, Trial balance and Balance Sheet, P&L formulation, Supplier Payments, Invoicing.
- High Integrity, Excellent team Player, Process oriented.
