Role summary The Accounts Assistant provides day-to-day accounting and administrative support to the finance and operations teams at Cworth Energy Service Uganda Limited. The role is hands-on and Excel-driven, covering bookkeeping, bank and ledger reconciliations, payroll support, tax and audit preparation, and inventory costing for a fast-growing solar business. 2. Key duties and responsibilities - Enter financial data into the accounting system and maintain accurate general, debtor and creditor ledgers.
- Prepare weekly and monthly financial reports and summaries for the Accounts/Finance Manager.
- Process and record supplier invoices, update supplier statements and maintain customer ledgers.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations, reconcile supplier balances and manage petty cash records, including replenishment and reconciliation.
- Support the preparation of audit schedules and working papers and assist with tax computations and filing support documents.
- Assist with monthly payroll processing, including data entry, checks on accuracy, and maintenance of payroll and staff benefits records.
- Capture inventory transactions, support inventory costing and stock valuation, and provide data for stock reconciliations.
- Perform basic credit control tasks, including tracking overdue invoices and following up outstanding customer payments.
- Maintain well-organized electronic and physical files for finance documents such as invoices, receipts, contracts, payroll and tax records.
- Provide general administrative support to the team and assist with any other reasonable duties as assigned.
3. Minimum qualifications and experience - Diploma in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- A bachelorâs degree in accounting, Finance, Business or a related field is an added advantage.
- Studying towards or having completed CPA (or equivalent professional qualification) is an added advantage.
- 1â2yearsâ relevant accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably in an accounts/finance role.
- Experience with inventory-based businesses or stock-related accounting is an added advantage.
- Any prior hands-on exposure to payroll processing or basic taxation in Uganda is a plus.
4. Skills and competencies - Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including use of formulas, basic data analysis and functions such as VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP and pivot tables.
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and double-entry bookkeeping.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail and good numerical skills.
- Good organizational skills, with the ability to maintain clear and accessible records.
- Ability to handle confidential financial and payroll information with discretion and integrity.
- Ability to work effectively in a small team, manage multiple tasks and meet reporting deadlines.
- Good communication skills and a professional attitude when dealing with staff, suppliers and auditors.
