JOB DETAILS: B1. Overall Purpose of the Job To monitor mill operations through Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and maintain mill efficiency parameters by taking appropriate actions to ensure good-quality bagasse production. Key Responsibilities 1. Mill Operations: o Start and stop mills promptly by following safe procedures. o Ensure the correct amount of imbibition water is applied at the right temperature. 2. Reporting and Communication: o Report any abnormalities in running equipment to the shift engineer. o Scrutinize the predecessor’s handover report to gather information about plant conditions. 3. Inspection and Supervision: o Conduct quick physical inspections of equipment with the help of the mill supervisor. o In the absence of the mill supervisor, perform supervisory duties as required. 4. Task Allocation and Guidance: o Assign and direct staff to specific tasks, supervise their performance, and provide technical guidance during shutdowns and planned stoppages. 5. Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Compliance: o Monitor and ensure compliance with SHE policies in collaboration with shift operators. 6. Preventive Measures: o Continuously monitor the plant's operational behavior to detect warning signs of failure and implement preventive measures. 7. Staff Management: o Maintain discipline among subordinate staff and address their personal and occupational grievances. 8. Plant Maintenance: o Directly supervise plant overhauling activities during shutdowns and off-crop periods. 9. Reporting: o Prepare detailed shift handover reports covering all aspects of operations. o Maintain accurate and up-to-date operational logbooks. 10. Other Duties: o Perform other duties as assigned or delegated by the shift engineer. C. Knowledge, Qualifications, and Experience C1.1 Education: • Degree Holders: o A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor of Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering (or its equivalent) from a recognized institution. • Diploma Holders: o A Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution. C1.2 Experience, Skills, and Competencies: • Experience: o Degree Holders: Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a related field. o Diploma Holders: Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a related field. o Experience handling shift workers is an added advantage. • Skills and Competencies: o Strong supervisory skills. o Good communication and interpersonal skills.
